The Mezaparks Great Bandstand reconstruction stage 2
Valdis Koks managed project as project manager and responsible supervising engineer.
The second round of the redevelopment implements the Silver grove design for the Mežaparks Great Bandstand, designed by the architects Juris Poga and Austris Mailitis. Branched “tree pattern” and other metal structures together compose 1766,4-ton metal structures. This unique structure is composed of columns and buses and extends into the sky at a height of 35.8 metres, hosting 510 acoustic shields. This is thus recognised at the European level as unique and complex, with an individual acoustic solution. New Bandstand can accommodate up to 12 874 choir singers as well as dancers in the extended dance area. After the reconstruction, the bandstand will be more convenient, accessible and secure for festival participants. The layout of the steps and seats is particularly considered: steps are made of concrete structures, while the seats feature removable wooden steps with a special coating. The built-in misting system will cool singers in hot summers, cooling the hot air with water mist.
