Sigulda new castle reconstruction and restoration

Project managed by Valdis Koks.

The New Castle of Sigulda is an architectural monument of national importance, which was recognised as the most glamorous Writers’ Palace in Europe during the first independence of Latvia, after the reconstruction project performed by architect Alfred Birkhan. During the reconstruction of 1937, a unique interior of national romanticism was created in the palace, which has been maintained up to this date. Therefore restoration and preservation work of the building’s supporting structures, design, facades, interior and finishing was done in line with the quality requirements of the architecture of the site.
